Here is a bit of a bio about our token Mai FM Ginga who will be jumping.
My name is Mike Heard - I am a 29 year old kiwi that lives in Auckland, New Zealand. I am also the ‘former’ “Guinness World Record” holder of "The Most Bungy Jumps in 24 Hours".
One of the things that New Zealand is most well known for is its adrenalin filled sports and care free attitude. AJ Hackett and Henry Van Asch are both iconic New Zealander's and are the founders and creators of Bungy jumping; they have both been a part of many records and attempts in the past. I took an interest to this sport a number of years ago and really enjoy seeing the joy and feeling of satisfaction that it brings to others once they have taken the plunge.
My record attempt in 2008 was successful on both and personal front along with the media coverage it gained worldwide, we were also able to raise a good amount of money for charity. Unfortunately in May this year, a South African man broke my record. This news came with mixed emotions but has “fuelled the ginger fire that grows on top of my head” even more and I will do everything in my power to make this record near impossible for anyone else to beat. I have the support of Auckland Bridge Climb and Bungy, who have put together an amazing team of Jump Masters to make sure we are successful. The current record is 42 and is held by Englishman James Field. I am not planning this record for commercial or profitable gain to any business or individual. I simply love the sport and enjoy everything that comes with it. There are 4 cameras mounted on the Auckland harbour bridge to capture the entire record and this footage will be streamed live right here at maifm.co.nz.
